Need a hug?

What can words do? A lot!

Imagine what a single word can do to a young man who’s been courting a girl for years and about to give up when all of a sudden she responds to his seemingly useless wooing with a ‘yes.’

Sadly, however, if words can make one ecstatic, they can also make one’s life a tragic.

New Year’s Day Message: “Something Worth Treasuring and Pondering”

Luke 2:17-19

17 When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, 18 and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. 19 But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart.

January 1, 2012

Everybody celebrates New Year’s Day. Well, perhaps not everybody. There may be those that do not see it as a day more special than any other day. Or those that do not feel they should “go with the flow.”  I do not usually go with the flow either. But for celebrations like Christmas and New Year’s Day, I go with the flow. It’s fun!

For New Year’s Day, however, it’s not just going with the flow for me—it’s my birthday! And on January 1, 2012 I’m hosting a party. Yes, a PARTY! I don’t know if it has something to do with my age that sounds like a canned sardine brand in the Philippines, minus the last digit, but I feel like I need to celebrate it in a way different from the ones I had before. How different?

Well, since it’s on a Sunday, it will start with worship led by me and, the one and only, EDWARD GRANADOSIN,  who I’m sure will not only lead us in singing but will also inspire us, as he always does, with a special song.

The New Year’s Day celebration will also be a day for me to take the opportunity to give thanks to the Lord especially for people who have been supportive of our ministry especially during our times of financial crisis: Jeff & Jamie Irvin, Pete & Neneng Durias, Gary & Janet Rupp, George & Jeena Shaw, Raymond & Debbie Woodrow, Chuck & Genalyn Aguilar, Cora Granadosin.

I also would take the opportunity to thank those who support the ministry by hosting our Bible study groups: Ted & Emy Basco and the Pasion family, Alex & Mynie Agustin, and Mildred. Soon, Elma Vasquez and family will also host a Bible study group.  Thanks as well to those who faithfully support the ministry by being always there: Maruja Perono, Cres Deary, and Mynie Agustin. Special thanks to Edward Granadosin whose inspiring music and encouraging words have made our worship experience at Oasis even richer.

Here’s the bottom line…

God Made Flesh

October 31, 2011

Read: John 1:6-13

I don’t know how those that teach the Bible does not say Jesus is God can miss what the very first verse in the Gospel of John says: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” And the fact that v. 14 says, “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us….” implies that he was not “flesh” prior to becoming one.

So to recognize and receive Jesus (vs. 10-12) is really  not to literally “accept Jesus into your heart” but to believe in him as what he truly is and embrace him: God made flesh.
